This is a big dragonfly that landed on Brady while he was watering the flowers. He says that she looks like she had just laid her eggs cuz you could see her loose, empty abdomen where the eggs were. They don't live much longer after they lay eggs, so she wasn't doing very well.

I don't know if you knew this, but in college, I worked in the Insect Systematics and Evolution lab.
Thanks for the great resolution on the picture, I was able to look at the wing structure and get out my old books.
Your dragonfly is in the Suborder ANISOPTERA. I really think it is a Libellulidae, but it could be an Aeshnidae.
I know, I'm kind of a dork.
