OUCH!

This is Lochlin's first major accident. Here I am, trying to be a good mom, and my kiddo STILL gets hurt. It could have been worse though, thank goodness for that!
This is what happened:

We have a wood burning stove with a removable screen that just sits on the front on a little ledge.

Lochlin is constantly playing with it, which usually I don't mind. Today, he had it laying flat and was driving his little Thomas train on it. He was fine until he started getting really frustrated and screaming really loud. I gave him three warnings not to scream again and to just ask me to help him. He didn't of course, so I told him I was going to put the screen away. I chose to put it up high...on the fridge....cuz I knew he couldn't reach it.

The phone rang and it was Brady. As we were talking, I saw that Lochlin had my exercise ball against the fridge, trying to climb up to get the screen.

My intuition totally knew what was going to happen. Even though I was on the other side of the counter, I tried getting to the fridge before the inevitable happened. I saw the screen wobble.....and then....it fell. I told Brady, "I'll call you back!" I knew he heard the bang and then Lochlin crying, and he was probably wondering what the heck was going on. Anyway, Loc was just to the left of it so it just clipped the right side of his head. I was thinking, 'that could have been way worse'. I'm glad he wasn't right under it; it's kinda heavy. I ran over to comfort him, as he held his head. I was just thinking he had a little bonk, but as I was holding him, I felt something wet. Now I was thinking, 'Oh CRAP!' and I moved his hand, and he was totally covered in blood. I started freaking out a little bit, but I remained pretty calm. I grabbed some tissue and held it tight to his head for a little while. I removed it, and I could see that it was a little slice about an inch long. It started gushing a little more, but I could see it wasn't very deep.

This was the second tissue I used. The first was covered....

I had him lay down on his side and hold the tissue to his head. I hurried and called Brady back to tell him what happened and ask him if I should take Loc to the hospital. He said to just watch it. It finally stopped bleeding, so I made him a little gauze headband so he didn't have to hold the tissue anymore.

This was taken later that night:

Poor kid! Lesson learned: Don't put something that heavy up high where it can fall. Next time, I'll lock it in a room somewhere or put it in the garage. I'm glad he's ok, and I'm glad it WASN'T any worse. Count my blessings, right?
